Shit. That probably only needs a new battery and a fluids change and it’s ready to go...

I’m guessing a bit more than. In order to get it roadworthy, I’d guess new brake cylinders, brake lines, maybe a master cylinder, new windshield, new ball joints... maybe a few new bearings.
Still though - doesn’t stop me from wanting it!

It might not have ball joints.
At this vintage, it could be the old kingpin style

Ah, right. I’m thinking tie-rod ends. It’s been a long day.

Agreed - I was just being fatuous...that said, if the frame and body were relatively good condition (only surface rust) then that would be a fine project.
A friend of the family died a couple of years ago and he had a ‘53 Chevy that he drove for probably 50 years. Rebuilt it twice. Straight 6, 3 on the tree and (I’m told) you had to engage the starter bendix with a foot pedal.
ETA: Oh! 8-track. He still had a goddamn 8-track in it, too!

Can’t hurt to ask
It’s probably 3 on the tree since he said he couldn’t remember if it was manual or auto
The floorboards are probably gone since it’s been sitting in grass, which might be an issue because my dad’s old 47 Chevrolet had a massive 6 volt battery that sat under the seat and you’ll have to make sure that is secure so it doesn’t spill on you or a passenger
The frame is probably very beefy, but it can’t hurt to check it for rot. I can’t remember if these are boxed or c-channel frames. Boxed frames tend to rot out when junk gets inside of the frame rails, which could be an issue sitting in plant life

When I was a youngster, my parents had a 1980 LeSabre wagon and a 1979/80 Malibu. Both had 8-tracks. I guess maybe I’m getting old...

It took me years to realize that songs did not normally fade out in the middle, click, then fade back in...

Yeah, it kind of depends on how long it has been sitting there. For some reason I’m thinking these are box frames, but I could be wrong on that.

It probably is. Trucks like these aren’t exactly underbuilt

I don’t think my parents actually ever owned any 8-tracks. We had a cassette tape to 8-track adapter.

I’ve been curious to know what some of the outfits would want for a new frame. All I’ve seen are $10k+, and look like box frames.

I doubt it will need a new frame, but they are a couple of grand at least

I doubt it as well. I was just curious to know what one would go for.

Aftermarket frames designed to accept better handling suspensions cost fortunes. Here’s a cheaper one I found that doesn’t come with suspension parts

I’d bet a stock frame might be 1-2k, a little bit cheaper than the cost of a parts truck

As far as fetching $7500 on eBay it would need to be able to be driven home to get that much. The 1/2 ton version is more desirable. I wonder what the interior and floors look like...
